Oven Cleaning And Maintenance

All the Revent ovens we offer feature corrosion resistant steam systems and are manufactured from top quality materials that are extremely unlikely to rust, flake or peel.

However, it’s important to clean your Revent oven regularly, to ensure there are no food remnants that could become a fire hazard, keep you prepared for food safety inspections and guarantee the taste of your product isn’t adversely affected by previous baking endeavors.

How To Clean Revent Ovens

Consistency is key when it comes to cleaning your Revent oven, so make sure you stay on top of daily spills, food debris and grease by cleaning it as often as possible.

To do this, you’ll need: hot water; a mild liquid detergent; a cloth; a scourer (non-metallic); a brush or broom; baking soda or borax; Vienna lime powder.

To clean your Revent oven door:

  1. Turn off the oven and wait for it to cool.
  2. Mix hot water and liquid detergent in a bowl – this will fight tough grease stains and won’t expose your product to harsh chemicals found in some oven cleaners.
  3. Using a soft sponge or cloth, wipe down the glass, scrubbing at baked-on grease if necessary.
  4. Rinse and dry – use fresh water and a clean rag to rinse off any cleaning residue.

To clean your Revent oven interior:

  1. Turn off the oven and wait for it to cool.
  2. Sweep out the inside of the oven with a brush or broom, removing burnt food.
  3. Using baking soda, borax or any non-chlorine detergent, scrub down the interior. Use a Scotch Brite scouring pad or any non-metallic sponge to break up tougher stains. NOTE: Never use steel or non-stainless steel wool to clean the interior as this could scratch or corrode the metal.
  4. Rinse using a fresh, wet cloth and allow to dry.

To clean your Revent oven exterior:

  1. Turn off the oven and wait for it to cool.
  2. Polish the stainless steel exterior using baking soda, borax or any non-chlorine detergent. Be sure to wipe away any residue with a wet cloth. NOTE: Never use steel or non-stainless steel wool to clean the exterior as this could scratch or corrode the metal.
  3. Apply a dab of Vienna lime and use its grain to polish away smudges and greasy fingerprints from your Revent oven’s exterior.
  4. Mix hot water and mild detergent in a bowl and use a clean cloth or soft sponge to wipe down the instrument panel.
  5. Rinse with clean water and pat dry.

To clean your Revent oven filter:

There are already in-built filters in your Revent oven that help remove the fats and oils that become airborne during cooking. However, to prevent grease fires and improve the air quality of your commercial kitchen, Revent recommends cleaning them once a month. Happily, the procedure is straightforward – put your filter through a dishwasher such as the Somengil MultiWasher, which provides unbeatable cleanliness and sanitation for your Revent oven and all your production equipment.

Of course, the best way to ensure your Revent oven is kept clean and functioning at peak performance 24/7 is to invest in an ongoing servicing and maintenance program from Schaumburg Specialties. Our technicians are experts in Revent ovens and know exactly what to do to ensure that yours is a well-oiled machine!

Using production equipment manufactured from germ and corrosion resistant materials – such as our SHOPCraft range of racks and sheet pans – is also key to making sure your Revent oven (and your production line!) remain firing on all cylinders. Our SHOPCraft racks are fully welded from top quality materials and are compliant with the highest hygiene security and food safety standards and using them will go a long way towards ensuring your Revent oven is kept clean and fit for purpose.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

It’s of course inevitable that issues can sometimes occur, even if you’ve followed the manufacturer’s installation and operational guidance to the letter.

Here, Schaumburg Specialties’ experienced Revent oven technician, Tom Bylina, gives some guidance on how to resolve some of the most common issues that can occur with Revent ovens 724 and 726.

If you try these troubleshooting tips and are still experiencing problems, reach out and schedule an oven service, repair and /or parts replacement with Tom or another one of our experts. We’re always happy to help.

Issue 1. My oven won’t turn on - what do I do?

First, verify the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. If the breaker is fine, the issue could be a blown internal fuse, faulty wiring, or a problem with the control board, which may require a professional service.

Issue 2: My electric oven has power (lights/display work) but won’t heat up.

The most common cause of a Revent oven not heating up is a faulty heating element. Turn off the oven and visually inspect the elements for any visible cracks or breaks. A multimeter can be used to test for continuity to confirm if an element is faulty.

Issue 3: My gas oven burner lights turn on but won’t ignite or heat.

This often indicates a problem with the igniter or draft. The igniter must glow bright red to ignite the gas – if it’s weak or not glowing, it needs to be replaced. Ensure the gas supply valve is fully open and the burner ports are not clogged.

Issue 4: The oven temperature seems inaccurate, leading to uneven cooking or baking.

The most likely culprit is a defective temperature sensor or thermostat. You can use an independent oven thermometer to check the actual temperature and see if it aligns with the setting. If the temperatures are inconsistent, the sensor or thermostat may need to be replaced.

Issue 5: The door is closed but the controller says it's not.

Inspect the door gasket (the rubber seal lining the door) for any damage or debris. Also, check the door sensor, as they can clog up over time and stick. Replacing these components can resolve the issue and ensure proper heat retention.

Issue 6: My oven is making unusual noises, like buzzing or rattling.

Unusual noises often stem from loose parts or a malfunctioning fan in convection ovens. Turn off the oven and inspect the fan and motor for any loose screws or obstructions and tighten as needed.

Issue 7: The oven is baking unevenly.

Ensure that there are no issues with the blower fan and that the cassettes are properly aligned to the original installation spec and are not damaged.

Issue 8: I see an error code on the display. What should I do?

Error codes are specific to the oven model. Consult your owner’s manual to understand what the code means. For general troubleshooting, you can try performing a hard reset by unplugging the oven for a few minutes and then plugging it back in.

Issue 9: The interior oven light is not working

First, make sure the oven is turned off and try replacing the light bulb. If a new bulb doesn’t work, there may be a problem with the light socket or the switch, which may need to be tested and replaced.

Issue 10: My oven smells like burning plastic.

Immediately turn off the oven and unplug it. This is potentially hazardous. A burning smell often indicates a problem with the wiring, possibly a burnt wire connection. Visually inspect the wiring and terminal block for signs of discoloration or melted insulation. Do not use the oven until the wiring has been professionally inspected and repaired.
